  • Do Philip Martin's products contain parabens?
In no Philip Martin's product will you find parabens. The Parabens used to preserve the products have been replaced by naturally derived ingredients such as vitamin C and E. As you will see, the Pao (Period after open) i.e. the preservation time of the product after opening, indicated on each product, does not exceed never 6 or 12 months, after which the product must be replaced with a new one. This indicates lack of parabens which last for years, but are considered by us to be harmful chemicals.
  • Do Philip Martin's products contain silicones?
They are only present in some of our products, because they are essential for the function of those products. The silicones we use derive from silica and are defined as "volatile", they are easily removable from the hair with a shampoo and do not affect the performance of technical treatments.
  • Do Philip Martin's products contain SULFATES?
We do not use SLS or SLES in our shampoo. However, we make use of Coco-Glucoside, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate and many other surfactants derived from babassu and coconut. These are all foaming ingredients used for cleaning and therefore have similar functions. The difference is that the starting ingredients used to make these foaming ingredients are of the vegetable type (coconut or babassu).
  • Do Philip Martin's products contain nickel?
Nickel is a heavy metal present in many commonly used objects and foods and can only be present in cosmetics in technically unavoidable traces. Neither Philip Martin's nor other cosmetic companies are in a position to guarantee the absolute absence of this substance in their products.
  • Do Philip Martin's products contain perfume?
Yes, Philip Martin's products contain perfumes. An element that distinguishes our brand is Sensory, this makes the beauty routine and professional treatments an unforgettable moment.
  • Do Philip Martin's products contain alcohol?
Some Philip Martin's products contain alcohol, this is essential in some formulations to solubilize active ingredients or resins. Our formulas are perfectly balanced to avoid causing damage to the stem and skin.
  • Do Philip Martin's products contain nanomaterials?
No, our products do not contain nanomaterials.
  • Do Philip Martin's products contain preservatives?
Yes, our products contain preservatives. Any product containing water is at risk of microbial contamination. To prevent this eventuality we use food preservatives and, in any case, permitted by the European Regulation.
  • Do Philip Martin's products contain UV protection?
Yes, although for hair products it is not possible to calculate a sun protection factor, expressed in the SPF value, as they are applied to the hair and not to the skin.
  • Are Philip Martin's products natural or organic or organic?
Philip Martin's products contain both natural (in some specific cases from organic farming) and synthetic ingredients. From the synergy of both we obtain high performance, professional quality and optimal storage and stability conditions. The list of ingredients of each product can be consulted on the packaging or directly in the salon, with the support of the hairdresser. It is important to remember that there is no specific regulation that distinguishes natural/organic products from other categories of cosmetics. Natural/organic products fall within the EU definition of cosmetics and must therefore comply with the safety and product information requirements established by this standard. Contrary to common consumer perception, “natural” or “organic” ingredients (and products) are not necessarily safer than those of “synthetic” origin.
  • Are Philip Martin's products vegan?
There are no specific regulations that distinguish vegan cosmetics from other product categories, these therefore fall within the definition of cosmetics provided by the EU and must comply with the requirements established by this standard. The term "vegan" is used by companies for marketing and communication reasons. If the expression “vegan” refers to products that do not contain ingredients or by-products of animal origin, then many Philip Martin's products could be considered as such. However, although most of our products do not contain animal-derived ingredients, there are others that contain beeswax, keratin derivatives and honey for example. The composition of the products is always shown on their packaging and the verification of the presence or absence of any ingredients not suitable for vegans can be easily done by the consumer. In addition to this, if the term "vegan" refers to products developed with ingredients obtained from processes without animal-derived reagents and/or with the exclusion of ingredients tested on animals, it becomes more difficult to establish whether a product is vegan or not. . The reagents do not appear in the INCI and confirmation/denial of their use and origin is very difficult to find. If "vegan" also includes the claim "not tested on animals", it is worth remembering that the EU guidelines consider this claim misleading because the components of every cosmetic product on the market today must have been analyzed in the past using methods of historically accepted animal testing, to ensure that they did not cause any harm to consumers. It is more likely that those who are sensitive to the vegan theme will lean towards the broader interpretation of the term. In consideration of the above, in compliance with these consumers and European guidelines, we do not boast the "vegan" claim for our products, not even for those that do not have ingredients of animal origin in the composition.
  • Do Philip Martin's products contain peanuts and/or tree nuts?
Peanut taken orally is often responsible for even serious allergic phenomena. The main nuts involved in food allergic reactions are almond, hazelnut, walnut, cashew, pecan, Brazil nut, pistachio and macadamia nut. There are documented cases of cross-reactivity both between different nuts and with legumes. In consideration of the above, determining the presence or absence of ingredients derived from these substances requires extreme seriousness and caution. Although ingredients obtained from peanuts or tree nuts (e.g. almond oil) are present in some of our formulas, they are not added to the majority of our products. In this second case, however, it is not possible for us to certify the complete absence of these substances. In fact, an enormous number of raw materials from different suppliers are used in the production of our cosmetics. The plants, locations and production processes are also varied. This complexity makes it impossible to guarantee that our products are 100% free of traces of substances capable of eliciting an allergic response in individuals sensitive to peanuts, tree nuts and legumes.
  • Can hair dyes cause irritation or allergies?
In predisposed people, yes, as can any other type of substance. For this reason, anyone who knows they are sensitive to certain ingredients can and must read the labels carefully before using the product or report it to their hairdresser before the technical service. We recommend always proceeding with the skin sensitivity test, the method of execution of which is reported in detail on the Philip Martin's hair color packaging/leaflet. It is important to avoid contact with dyes if adverse reactions, such as stains or itching, have appeared following the sensitivity test. It is important to avoid contact with dyes even if you have sensitive, irritated or damaged scalp or if you have already experienced reactions due to the use of hair dyes in the past. All Philip Martin's colors contain explicit warnings and instructions for use on the label which, if followed scrupulously, allow you to minimize or avoid the risk of irritative or allergic reactions.
  • If I have a food allergy to milk and dairy products, can I use Philip Martin's products?
All Philip Martin's products do not contain milk proteins. Although food sensitivity to a certain substance does not necessarily imply the onset of a skin allergy to the same substance, it is not possible to exclude this possibility. In-depth assessments on this matter can only be made by medical personnel, therefore if you have any doubts, we suggest you carefully read the ingredient list on the product and ask your doctor for clarifications and further information.
  • Can Philip Martin's colors be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Regarding the use of our hair dyes during pregnancy, we recommend following the advice of your gynecologist. In fact, although the ingredients are selected to guarantee high skin tolerability, it must be considered that during pregnancy the skin's sensitivity is greater and therefore there is an increased risk of a sensitization or allergy reaction even in women who have never had such problems. For this reason, we do not recommend the application of any hair dye in the first trimester of pregnancy and, as regards the other months, we defer to the opinion of the gynecologist: some recommend the use of natural dyes starting from the 4th month, others recommend them only after pregnancy and breastfeeding.

In the Organic Base Color and Color Split coloring lines, some nuances contain a minimal amount in order to guarantee the final color result. Philip Martin's is working to eliminate PPD from the dyes. In the True Color color line this is not present in any of the shades. Yes, in True Color. Ammonia is a hair alkalizer used in oxidation coloring. This together with the oxidant helps to partially remove the natural color of the hair (melanin) to allow lightening up to 5 levels. After working on the hair, the ammonia evaporates easily, leaving the hair conditioned, producing healthy-looking hair with vibrant shine. In our body, ammonia is a product that is formed in the body due to the activity of many tissues, but mostly derives from the metabolism of food proteins and from intestinal bacterial fermentations. It is also found in the food sector, as it is a leavening agent used in pastry making. It should absolutely not be confused with ammonia used for household cleaning even if they have a strong odor in common.
  • Does Philip Martin's hair color contain MEA?
Yes, in the Marmellatà and in the Glitch. MEA is a hair alkalizer used in oxidation coloring. The main advantage of MEA is less chemical smell compared to ammonia, used at low concentration, there is no problem with color performance and hair protection. The MEA molecule is much larger (it's a liquid) it doesn't evaporate like the ammonia molecule (a gas) so that's why it doesn't smell. This also means that MEA is more difficult to remove from the hair and may remain on the scalp/hair after shampooing and continue oxidation. In the case of Philip Martin's, the concentration of MEA in our color is the minimum that can be included in a professional color to guarantee its performance, plus Oleic Acid was added to facilitate its removal.

Petrolatum used in cosmetic products, in fact, in addition to complying with the requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia, also complies with the provisions of Italian and European legislation on cosmetics. In Philip Martin's this ingredient is used as a viscosifier to stabilize the product and with a minimum concentration.
  • Does Philip Martin's Henna contain 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone?

Nonetheless, neither Philip Martin's nor other cosmetic companies are in a position to provide the certainty of the absolute absence of this substance in their products.

  • Why is this type of packaging used?
